Day 19: A Helping Hand at the Gym


     Crazy me.  I have taken on another challenge for myself this year besides scattering acts of kindness.  I am determined to get myself into shape and be healthier than I have been in a long time.  Believe it or not, so far so good!

       I got my daughter a membership to the YMCA for Christmas.  It has turned out to be a present for myself as well.  I have gone almost every day since the new year.  Who knew?

       Working out is always something that I have enjoyed. However, I would only do so in the privacy of my own home, behind closed doors.  I never thought that I would want to jump around, breath heavily, and sweat buckets in the company of other people.  I have been proven wrong.


       I absolutely LOVE working out at the Y!  I have been going to different group classes every day.  So far I have tried step aerobics, a spinning class, zumba, kickboxing, body combat, body pump, and cardio boot camp.  My favorites at this point are kickboxing, zumba, and body combat.

        At the end of most classes there is a cool down time when all of the members need to use a mat.   All of the mats are piled up in the closet in the back of the workout studio.  Right before cool down time, there is usually a mass of sweaty bodies standing in line waiting to grab their cool down equipment.  

       For today's act of kindness, I decided to help move things along at the supply closet.  I stood at the mat shelf and quickly handed out mats to all of my partners in sweat.  Everyone seemed very appreciative and I got many thank you's and smiles.  It was really a little thing, but I was happy to help.  The presence of all of these people during work out time has been such a motivator to me.

    1. I have been spending time at the Penfield Y. I'll have to check out the one in Pittsford sometime soon!
